Mechanical, chemical, and wet/dry biological filtration in a tank-mounted external filter unit pumping 160 gallons per hour. The Millennium multi-filter features the BioGrid plate which provides high surface area as support for nitrifying bacteria that perform the important function of biological filtration--oxidation of toxic ammonia to relatively non-toxic nitrate. The BioGrid plate is totally separate from the mechanical and chemical filtration. This preserves the biological filter even when the mechanical/chemical filtration cartridge is replaced. The ImpellAir pump assembly, using venturi action, mixes fresh air with aquarium water before it passes through the BioGrid plate. As it passes through the plate, the biologically active surfaces are exposed to both dissolved oxygen in the water and undissolved oxygen in the air. This wet/dry action provides the nitrifying bacteria with much more oxygen than would normally be available, which greatly increases efficiency and capacity of biological filter. The MechaniChem filtration cartridge contains two layers of polyester fabric enclosing activated carbon in a single convenient unit. The polyester fabric traps particles, while the activated carbon is housed in a unique baffle system that ensures the entire stream of water flows through carbon during every pass through the filter. The AdjustaFlow telescopic siphon intake tube easily adjusts to various depths, and water flow is regulated by a top-mounted control. The flexible design permits easy removal of the intake tube for cleaning without removing the ImpellAir assembly. The Natural Wave pump timer creates alternating water currents in your aquarium when connected to pumps or powerheads. These alternating water currents reduce dead spots and can keep detritus (waste) in suspension, allowing it to be more easily captured by filters. Circulation provided by the Natural Wave pump timer also stimulates live corals by periodically flushing waste products away. In addition, the surging currents created by use of the Natural Wave pump timer mimic actual wave patterns in the ocean and provide a more realistic environment for your corals. The Natural Wave is a multi-cycle pump timer with six outlets. Two of the six circuits that have timing patterns alternate on/off with adjustable periods of 20 seconds to three minutes.
