A pH reading of 7.0 is neutral, a pH higher than 7.0 is alkaline, and a pH lower than 7.0 is acidic.Testing TipsBThis kit reads the pH of water within the range shown on the pH color chart. Anything outside this range, either more acidic or more alkaline, will read as the lowest or highest reading on the pH color chart. If chemicals are added to change extreme pH levels and no change in the pH reading is seen, the pH is above or below the range of this kit. Chemicals should be added slowly until a change in the pH reading is detected.

Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Freshwater/Saltwater Ammonia Test Kit () Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Freshwater/Saltwater Ammonia Test Kit
Price: $9.49
Sale Price: $7.59
() - $9.49

Fast, accurate and easy-to-use kit contains two dropper bottles, test solutions, easy-to-read instructions, color chart and glass tube with lid for 130 tests for ammonia level from 0 to 8 ppm.Why test for Ammonia?Tropical fish continuously release ammonia (NH3) directly into the aquarium through their gills, urine and solid waste. Uneaten food and other decaying organic material also add ammonia to the water. A natural mechanism exists that controls ammonia in the aquarium--the "biological filter," made up of nitrifying bacteria which grow in the gravel bed. As with any natural process, however, imbalances can occur. Testing for the presence of toxic ammonia is essential, so that once detected, steps can be taken to remove it. Otherwise, ammonia in the aquarium will damage delicate gill membranes, and prevent fish from carrying on normal respiration. High levels of ammonia quickly lead to fish death. Even trace amounts can stress fish, suppressing their immune systems and thereby increasing the likelihood of disease and subsequent fish loss.Testing TipsThis kit measures ammonia levels in parts per million (ppm), and can detect concentrations of ammonia from 0 ppm to 8.0 ppm in either freshwater or saltwater aquariums. Thus, there are two ammonia test color charts, one for freshwater aquariums, and one for saltwater aquariums, so be sure to use the correct chart for your type of aquarium when interpreting test results. The freshwater ammonia test color chart is the appropriate chart to use for testing freshwater aquariums to which aquarium salt has been added.

Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Freshwater/Saltwater Nitrite Test Kit () Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Freshwater/Saltwater Nitrite Test Kit
Price: $9.49
Sale Price: $7.59
() - $9.49

Fast, accurate and easy-to-use kit contains dropper bottle, test solution, easy-to-read instructions, color chart and glass tube with lid for 180 tests for nitrite level from 0 to 5 ppm. What Is Nitrite?Nitrite is a toxic waste material found in varying concentrations in most aquariums. It is produced by nitrifying bacteria nitrosomonas in the biological filter as it breaks down ammonia. As the biological filter develops and grows, the bacteria nitrobacter use nitrite as a food source, converting it to non-toxic nitrate, thus reducing the level of nitrite in the aquarium. Regular testing for nitrite is important because even low levels of nitrite affect the red blood cells of fish, reducing their ability to carry oxygen, thus causing suffocation and fish death.Testing TipsThis test kit reads total nitrite (NO2) levels in parts per million (ppm) from 0 ppm to 5 ppm. Regular testing for nitrite is an essential part of routine aquarium maintenance. Aquarium water should be tested for nitrite every other day when the aquarium is first set up. In established aquariums, test for nitrite weekly to make sure the nitrite level does not rise.

Water Safe Plus fizz tabs also help establish a healthy, biologically balanced environment for your fish. The Plus contains beneficial, nitrifying bacteria that is essential to starting up a new tank and keeping it clean and healthy.Check the pH level of your aquarium water. pH is the measure of acidity or alkalinity in water. Maintaining a neutral pH of 7.0 is important to keeping a healthy aquarium. Most fish do well in a neutral pH of 7.0. Use the Quick Dip pH aquarium test strip to determine the level of pH.Maintain a neutral pH in your aquarium. If your pH level is not neutral, add Correct pH fizz tabs.
