Heritage Farms Pic-A-Seed tube feeders are manufactured in the USA. The PETG (polyethylene terephthalate glycol) tube material is UV stabilized to prevent damage from sunlight. The metal parts are heavy-duty zinc die cast material and are powder coated for a pleasing finish. The wide rim on the top helps keep the seed dry. Squirrels will find the weighted top difficult to open to reach the seed supply. The feeder base is easily disassembled with a TORX Screwdriver (available at most hardware stores or by calling customer service), and the perch rods can be pushed out and removed for cleaning. As a reminder, please take care of your bird guests by cleaning your feeder regularly with a mild disinfectant solution (10% household bleach) to reduce the incidence of disease spread by dirty feeders. Make sure the feeder is dry before refilling your feeder. Please note: Bird's feet will not freeze to metal perches in freezing weather. Feeding Birds can be done year round as birds delight in supplementing their foraging diet with seed from feeders. The seed ports are designed to be used with Nyger thistle as well as small seed finch mixes. Besides the obvious benefit of winter-feeding, springtime feeding is critical as nesting adults often have less time to forage for seed and are helped by a readily accessible seed supply nearby. Additionally, American Goldfinch plumage is at its most brilliant in the summer months. Notes: Make sure Nyger thistle seed is fresh. If birds refuse to eat the seed, it is suggested that the old, spoiled seed be replaced with fresh seed. Placement of your Heritage Farms Pic-A-Seed tube feeder should be near shrubbery or the protection of a tree to provide a secure feeding area for the birds. Open areas are an invitation for predators and should be avoided if possible. Placing any feeder in a new location may take a while for the birds to accept and visit it. Patience and a high quality seed will shorten the time for acceptance.
